Dr. Brenda Phillips grew up in Michigan. She graduated from Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1992 and later pursued specialty training, obtaining board certification as a Veterinary Oncologist in 1998.
She has lived in San Diego since 2000 and started playing polo in 2010 at the San Diego Polo and Poway Polo Clubs. She is currently a playing member of the Lakeside Polo Club in East County San Diego and has several polo ponies of her own.
The name of her first polo pony was Mickey, and one of her wonderful Golden Retrievers was called Leo.
“I wrote this book to introduce children to the sport of polo. I also wanted to promote the concept of kindness and patience toward our amazing horses, creating a strong partnership based on mutual respect.
A portion of proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Foundation of the Horse to further their mission of improving the health and welfare of horses.
Last but not least I feel it is important to teach and emphasize safety for both horse and rider during equestrian activities.“
